Get Grounded

Of course this topic came up for this week! I am needing to get grounded more than ever. I have been feeling scattered + a little anxious. That could be in relation to being busy, prepping for our Spiritual Goddess retreat, the full moon, solar storms, + here comes Mercury Retrograde. These things are happening all the time so how do we get recentered + focused again?!

You often hear the term “Grounded.” What does this term actually mean? I heard this so many times as I was beginning my spiritual practice. I could feel it and understand it, but it was never actually explained to me.

Sometimes we can get stuck in that space of spirit, in the mind, in the business that we aren't quite present in the physical. Grounding is helpful to center us and get us focused again. It’s helpful to bring us back to this present moment that we are in here on earth. We are stabilizing our energy.

When you are not grounded your thoughts can be scattered, you may feel over-emotional, you may feel flighty, + even super high. You can feel so out of the body that you might not remember what streets you actually took when you drove to work that day. That can be dangerous so let’s talk about how to ground yourself.

Tips for Grounding:

  1. Breathwork is amazing. This will help ground you + help you feel connected to your breath + your body. You may try breathing in for 4 counts, hold for 2 counts, breathe out for 4 counts, and hold for 2 counts. Repeat that cycle for a minute.

  2. Walking outside will help ground you. Put your hands on a tree, sit by a tree, or put your bare feet on the ground. This is wonderful help for the flow of emotions. Let mother earth hold you.

  3. Journaling is helpful. Ask spirit for a memory to work through that is attached to your current emotion. You may find a present memory or a past one. Write what happened, what you felt, that you release what you felt, + call in what you would have liked to feel.

  4. Organize yourself. Getting organized can help reduce the feeling of being scattered.

  5. Work on a puzzle. Focusing on this can help to let go of anything else + it shifts the focus back into the now plus it can free your mind from all the chatter.

  6. Eat Root vegetables. Beets, Sweet Potatoes, Potatoes. Yum.

  7. Aromatherapy. Sandalwood is one that comes to mind. Take a few deep breaths in and out with a grounding oil under your nose.

  8. Move your body. Put on your favorite song and dance to it. Become aware of your body and let it move intuitively.

  9. Laughter with friends!

  10. Do a meditation + imagine that you are growing roots from your feet into the earth. Allow yourself to connect to mother earth through this visualization. Allow her to support you + ground you.

These are just s few tips to help ground you. You can use these as you need them or use any of them daily. I use the meditation (#10) every day to help ground me.
